Hello
The 15th Delhi Book Fair concluded on 6 September 2009. The fair was, as we earlier mentioned a mela. The book sellers were primarily engaged in retail activities. Some events organised by ITPO and Kitab were relevant for the publishing industry. Copyright Symposium turned out to be very interactive and educative with publishers and lawyers at the panel and interventions from the audience.
We did not see any relevant participation by the North East publishers though. The Seminar on ‘publication scenario of North Eastern states – past and present’ organised by Tripura Publishers Guild and FIP had to be cancelled because of unavailability of speakers.
In midst of these events, Rupa & company invested with a larger purpose and got attention, visibility and visitors at their stand. They invited Jaswant Singh on 29 August 2009 and Chetan Bhagat on 5 September 200
9 for book signing ceremony which resulted in audience and media interaction.
Our various associations will still have to do a better job of this whole thing. Otherwise a professional and competent organiser will seize the opportunity to organise a great book fair for what with all its politics and problems is becoming a real city. Real cities or agglomerations such as Delhi want real book fairs with all their complexities.
Indian Printer and Publisher published Content & Media newsletter on two days at the fair with updates and stories from the fair. IPP with Quark also organised sessions at our joint stand on typography by designer Itu Choudhary and Excellence in Book Designing by Managing Director, Joy D-Zign Engineers, Narinder S. Manku.
We will also produce the IFRA Gazette show daily at the Chennai Conference and Expo at Chennai on 24 and 25 September 2009. The show itself is from 23 to 25 with some specia
l seminars on 22 September. Meanwhile, have a look at our three blogs — Print Asia, Print Experts Asia Pacific, and Content and Media AP. The addresses are respectively www.indianprinterpublisher.blogspot.com, www.printexperts.blogspot.com and www.contentmediaap.blogspot.com. Do comment and let us know if you want to join any of the blogging teams.
