KITAB (Arabic for "book") was founded in 2007 as a joint-venture of the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. Its aim is to advance the development of the book and publishing sector in the United Arab Emirates and to promote reading in the region on a lasting basis. In addition, KITAB supports the setting up of international publishing companies in Abu Dhabi and is significantly involved in developing a distribution system in the Arab world as well as in making the overall Arab market more professional. Claudia Kaiser has been the Director of the joint venture since its foundation. She is now returning to Frankfurt as the Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair’s International Department. The new KITAB Director is Monika Krauss. Next to improving distribution systems in the Arab world, her emphasis will be on the promotion of children books. ...cont´d
