At the Frankfurt Book Fair -- 15 October 2008

Guest of Honour Turkey brings 250 authors and 350 new released to the Fair

The Frankfurt Book Fair was inaugurated yesterday evening by Dr. Abdullah Gül, President of the Republic of Turkey in the presence of the 2006 Nobel prize winner for literature Orhan Pamuk, and senior officials of German and Frankfurt government and the organisers of the fair itself. Juergen Boos, Director Frankfurt Book Fair, Dr. Petra Roth, Mayor of Frankfurt, Volker Bouffier, Minister of the State for the Interior and, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Gottfried Honnefelder, Director of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association all participated in the opening ceremonies. It was a whole hearted demonstration of the importance attached to the Frankfurt Book Fair by the government’s of Germany and Turkey and the remarkable and ongoing opportunity that the Frankfurt Book Fair brings to the partner country. ...cont´d
