Difficult to compete with the metropolitan centres

Meerut is often thought of as a small town just 60 kilometres beyond the borders of the Delhi national capital region. Not many are aware that it is a city with a population of 13.5 lakhs (1.35 million) with more than a hundred publishers. Although this would imply that the print industry would be thriving there, an initial look reveals print business engaged in very competitive general and text book printing and some packaging in the city. Print in the city is geographically separated into two parts — the monochrome work takes place in the middle of city in areas near the Burana Gate while the colour printing is done in plants on the outer fringes such as in Mokhampur on the Delhi road. ...cont´d
