The saying, “Never judge a book by its cover” may well have come about as a caveat emptor to the buyer of books, urging her to strengthen her mental defences against the guile of a designer who has done her job too well. You might imagine a fiendishly clever cover artist, using skill, wit and visual appeal to make the book leap off the shelf into the buyer’s hands and into her shopping bag, having tugged at her purse along the way. ...cont´d
