Remedies include restructuring, multi-skilling workforce and practical toolkits

While overcapacity and the related workforce reductions continue to be the European printing industry’s main concerns, multi-skilling, flexible employment and retraining are considered top workforce implications in a study carried out in various European countries for Intergraf. The research shows that the level of change required in the industry implies significantly enhanced communication and consultation with affected staff. Immediate priorities for printers include identifying improved customer management and new market opportunities, and specialisation into niche markets. However, the issue of spare capacity still looms large, with over half of the companies participating in the study planning to fill this with low margin printing work. ...cont´d
