The Indian Book Industry at FBF

Naveen Kishore, publisher of Kolkata-based Seagull Books, is happy. After years of roaming the Frankfurt Book Fair for translation rights, he finally scored a hit. When, some time ago, he secured the worldwide English rights for two Chinese titles, he couldn’t have dreamt that their author would receive this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature. Under the pseudonym Mo Yan, Chinese novelist Guan Moye has been known best for his historical drama Red Sorghum. Turned into a movie by Zhang Yimou in 1987, it launched actress Gong Li onto the global stage. Seagull publishes two of Mo Yan’s works in English, Change (in the ‘What was Communism’ series edited by Tariq Ali) and the forthcoming Pow. ...cont´d
