There is a body of process control standards and tools which enable printers to match and maintain printing aims. For offset printers, the international ISO 12647-2 standard provides an implementation and certification framework to obtain more consistent colours and overall print quality, issues increasingly being demanded by international print buyers. Printing according to standard, incorporating the criteria formulated in ISO 12647, is the next level Indian printers will have to achieve. Wherever implemented, the understanding and application of process standards for offset printing is resulting in quality improvements and process consistency. In turn, this is leading to improved customer relations, reputation and competitiveness particularly with international print buyers. By contrast, neglecting the consequences of international standards is resulting in strategic disadvantages and decreasing opportunities to serve international customers.
