IppStar revises Indian CtP market forecast

December 10, 2009

In August, Ipp Services, Training and Research PL forecast the sale of 230  brand new CtP in India in the financial year from April 2009 to March 2010. IppStar has recently upwardly revised this estimate on the basis of the prepress market warming up since July 2009. It is now expected that between 245 to 250 new CtPs including all types (thermal, violet and conventional plate) will be installed in the country by the end of March 2010. This represents about 9 per cent growth over the previous year. In addition, it is expected that 35 to 40 used CtP will also be installed in this period.

  • Bombay Samachar the oldest still running newspaper in India founded in 1822, has ordered a DotLine C 35 Newspaper CtP together with a Glunz & Jensen Raptor 68 polymer plate processor. PostRip workflow with a Xitron RIP will drive the DotLine CTP. The C 35 is a high quality, high speed violet CtP from the German DotLine GmbH and it will produce 119 plates an hour with a plate size of of 347 x 590 mm at Bombay Samachar Ltd. The overall leader market leader this year is Kodak with its aggressively priced thermal CtPs. Screen will likely be number two in thermal with Heidelberg at number three. Notable also is the role of TechNova whose active selling of violet CtP’s from Screen, FFEI, Agfa and Highwater has definitely given the violet market market momentum beyond newspapers. Apart from the strong numbers from these players, niche player Krause will have a stellar year with about 25 installs including a recent sale of 7 CtP’s to HT Media for installations in non-metro cities.
