Kolkata and Delhi book fairs well attended

When I was told that the New Delhi World Book Fair, for the past two or three times, attracted “more than a million visitors” in 9 days, I couldn’t believe it. The few other trade fairs I attended at Pragati Maidan had a footfall of less than 5,000 per day, at the most, and those results were considered satisfactory given the capacity and carpet area of the two or three halls accommodating these fairs. Being a regular book fair visitor abroad, I just couldn’t get the numbers together when comparing exhibition spaces, book stalls and visitor ratios. Even when no distinction is being made between unique and repeat visitors.
