After our 4-year research project at the beginning of this century we thought that the 18 or 20 Indian web offset press manufacturers might shakeout and consolidate. In fact the opposite has happened. Instead of the market demand for increased colour and increased automation eliminating some players, the strong economy and the overheating media industry has actually increased the number of manufacturers to perhaps as many as 25 suppliers who can sell a web offset press. One can even buy web presses on credit and with the right type of political connections (read: friendly bankers and cheap land allotments) start a multi-edition newspaper. ...cont´d
