Hawkers’ unions want more holidays

Few knew that Poriborton (change) would deprive the average newsreader in West Bengal of newspapers on all four days of the Durga Puja. Earlier it was only on the day after Dussera that residents didn’t have a newspaper to read. According to the Trinamool Congress-led hawkers’ union this has been a long standing demand of the hawkers that had been ignored by the previous government. One of the leaders of the union asks why hawkers should not receive a 4 day holiday when state government employees are enjoying 10-day vacation this year onwards — another change introduced by the new government. ...cont´d
