Nigerian Book Fair from May 8-13, 2006

The Nigerian Book Fair Trust (NBFT) will be organising a book fair on “National Book Policy, HIV/AIDS and Sustainable Development’ from May 8 to 13, 2006. NBFT is a coalition of the major stakeholders in the Nigerian book sector, comprising the Nigerian Publishers Association, Nigerian Book Foundation, Nigerian Booksellers Association, Association of Nigerian Printers, Nigerian Library Association, Association of Nigerian Authors and the Association of Non-Fiction and Academic Authors of Nigeria. The Trust was incorporated in 1999, and enjoys the endorsement of the Education Tax Fund (ETF), Nigerian Education Research and Development Council and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Aims and objectives
The Trust was set up primarily to promote reading, educational, intellectual and technological development of the people. It has set the following objectives:

To improve the reading culture in Nigeria To bring books closer to the people for better education and self-improvement. To inculcate in the younger generation of Nigerians, necessary readership and authorship skills for a wholesome book society.To reiterate, in the minds of Nigerians, the place of books and other instructional materials in the educational advancement of the country.To promote a conducive environment for authors to get published by either local or foreign publishers.To establish a strong cultural market with economic potentials for social development using the platform of the book fair.To showcase the Nigerian arts and culture.To showcase Nigerian books in their entirety, as well as present books from other countries, thus increasing the variety of books available to the Nigerian reading public at affordable rates.
