Secured eData destruction for transactional printing
July 24, 2010 | By Fayez Ali
Pitney Bowes seems to have become very visibly active in India. On 22 June 2010, in association with Martin Yale, it launched Degaussers under the Intimus range. Since all deleted or formatted hard drives can potentially be restored, it is just a question of time, effort and money that someone may be ready to invest in recovering your deleted data. For instance Nehru place, like many other computer hardware markets in India has several data recovery providers. To prevent misuse of your deleted data, the new Intimus Degausser can ensure that the data is completely destroyed and erased from the hard disk making it impossible to restore.

Pitney Bowes will distribute the Intimus Degaussers and crushers from Martin Yale as well as provide accessories, spare parts and after-sales services for these. The Degaussers and crushers are used to prevent protected data from being stolen from hard drives when the computers and hard drives are disposed. The Intimus range priced between INR 7 lakhs to 20 lakhs targets service sectors like banking, financial, insurance, and telecom besides government departments where data security is a critical part of the data management process.
IPP is of the view that these secured data destruction products could also be targeted at print service providers doing transpromo. With guarantee of secured data destruction after use, companies may be more inclined to share sensitive customer information with their print service providers.
At the launch, KM Nanaiah, MD, Pitney Bowes India said, “Data is at the heart of the organizational systems. Effective data security and data management are critical to government and industries across all verticals today. Organizations are consistently upgrading their IT hardware to meet the growing demands on processing capability and storage. This leads to obsolescence of existing computer hardware, which needs to be disposed in a safe and secured manner. The Degausser will play this crucial role in destroying sensitive data in the hardware that is to be disposed off. The launch of this product is in alignment with our strategy to provide Secured Destruction solutions for data and documents.”
Erich Berthold, Regional Sales Head APAC, Martin Yale, commented, “We are excited to launch this product in India as it offers a huge potential in the transactional data environment. With the growth in customer facing organizations like insurance companies, banks and telecom, secured destruction of customer’s data could be a challenge if not adequately supported with technology. I am sure that with Pitney Bowes’ experience in handling the core sectors in India, the Intimus Degausser will be a huge success.”
