The announcement of new approval norms for technical institutes by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on 28 December 2010 should have come as a boon for all concerned. After all, the council has increased the number of seats in engineering courses by nearly 2 lakh, in management education by 80,000 and by 20,000 in architecture over the next few years.
