Sakal Times cancels Delhi launch

The Sakal Group headquarted in Pune was planning to launch its new English daily Sakal Times from Delhi. However, although the Delhi edition was expected to begin in December and a large editorial staff had been recruited including some veteran journalists in the city, Sakal suddenly closed its Delhi operations without notice. The group best known for its Marathi daily launched Sakal Times in English from its base in Pune in May 2008. Apparently the Delhi launch has been indefinitely postponed and approximately 70 persons hired for the new paper have lost their jobs.
