Company claims to serve best coffee at Ipex
March 04, 2010 | By IPP desk based on a press release
4 March 2010. Technotrans recently published its financial results for the first three quarters of 2009, showing that 2009 was their worse year ever but that sales have been picking up from September, right after the Summer vacation of their major customers. With revenue down to EUR 62.6 million from EUR 105.6 million for the same period in 2008, net losses amounted to EUR 6.2 million as compared to a net profit of EUR 3.9 million for the same period in the previous year, while the company’s total number of employees was reduced from 823 to 704.

Fortunately, things seem to be picking up for Technotrans, which is a leading manufacturer of systems and equipment for controlling liquid technology processes in offset printing, including automatic ink dosage, dampening, cooling and washing systems. Last month, Technotrans has been accepted as a member of the “Energy Efficiency Made in Germany” program, an export-promotion eco-label issued by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology. Also last month, two important orders were received from China. The Chinese Beijing Daily ordered a KBA Comet which is factory fitted with a Technotrans contex.lb blanket cleaning system. Furthermore there will be dampening solution preparation systems and a complete central ink supply from technotrans in and around these newspaper web presses. A second project deals with the Tianjin Daily, which has ordered a new Uniset 75 from manroland. Here technotrans units will take care of dampening solution preparation and central ink supply. The commissioning of the new machines is planned for the first half of 2010.
Dirk Luedken, Sales Manager of technotrans Asia-Pacific is pleased by this success. „The renowned Asian printing houses rely on a central system supplier for peripheral units. Someone who is their contact for the installation and maintenance of all systems. Here our strong presence in Asia is an important factor,“ he said.
As to Technotrans’ presence at Ipex, emphasis will be on service agreements based on remote control and servicing over the internet. These service agreements are to enable printers to have regular preventative maintenance and repair work done at predictable costs. This prevents downtime but also ensures equipment runs to maximum efficiency, quality and productivity. It also ensures that operating staff are fully trained to operate the equipment, a key part of any employer’s Health & Safety requirement.
Technotrans products on show include:
- The beta.c.eco, which is the energy efficient version of the beta.c, a combination unit which handles dampening solution circulation and temperature control in a single cabinet housed alongside a press. In addition to reducing power consumption when cooling inking rollers this unit also cuts back on the amount of water, IPA, additives and filter material required.
- The alpha.d, a dampening solution circulation system with digital temperature control. It includes options for alcohol stabilisation, automatic dampening solution dosage and the measurement of conductivity and pH levels. Its plug and play functionality means it is easy to install and upgrade.
- The alpha.r for reverse osmosis, ensuring a consistent water pH and conductivity in the dampening solution, predictability that is an asset for all printers but a prerequisite for any businesses serious about reducing or eliminating alcohol.
- The basic.fc, which is one of a family of fine-filtration systems that enable printers to eliminate ink particles, paper coating, powder, paper dust and other unwanted debris from the dampening solution. It is an economical, mobile unit.
- The contex.lb, a brush-based cleaning system for single-width newspaper, semi-commercial and heatset printing applications. This plug and play device fitted onto the printing unit will accurately measure the amount of washing agent used and automatically extract washing sludge.
- The contex.c, a cloth-based cleaning system for blanket and impression cylinder wash ups on offset presses. The cloths are quick and easy to replace and washing agent consumption is low but without compromise to results.
- An ink pumping demonstration model will highlight the advantages this technology can provide companies with more than one press. “The ROI on a bulk inking system depends on the volume of ink used but is economical from quite a small number of press units,” says Mr Benton, Director of Sales, Technotrans UK. “It means the user can buy in bulk at competitive prices and, for those looking to reduce manning costs, it also takes one further function away from the press. The ink just keeps on flowing and intermittently the barrels are refilled or replaced.”
The 154 square metre Technotrans stand, in addition to claiming the best products and best support packages, also claims to be serving the best coffee at the show.
