Ten years of comics at the Frankfurt Book Fair

Started as the “Fascination Comics” program ten years ago, the Comics Centre has become one of the standard categories making up the Frankfurt Book Fair. Albeit small, and squeezed into a corner of the fair’s Children’s Books section, it brought together 80 niche publishers this year, mainly German and Asian, as most of the larger European and American producers of comics and graphic novels preferred to exhibit in the broader Fiction sections of the fair’s international halls. Next to 5 Japanese and 2 of the largest North American manga houses, there were 2 exhibitors from Taiwan and 12 from South Korea, who stood out from the majority of European exhibitors in the Comics Centre.
