In the many hundreds of talks and seminars that take place in Delhi every month, week, day, it’s rare to find one where you get to listen to a publisher speak about his/her experiences in publishing. A few days ago I happened to chance upon one such lecture and decided to go and listen, particularly as the speaker, Christopher Maclehose is a publisher I know and admire. To those who are familiar with independent publishing in Britain, Christopher Maclehose is a name they will recognize. One of the old breed of ‘real’ publishers, that is, men and women for whom publishing becomes their life’s work, and money is not what guides them, Christopher has, in his time, been associated with several presses, including notably, the Harvill Press and more recently, his own imprint, Maclehose Press.
