In recent visits to the new TOI plant in Airoli and at IFRA Jaipur, we learnt about one of the most important aspects of the Times of India’s efforts in gearing up for a future in which the daily will grow but will have to be ready to add value for both readers and advertisers in various ways. This could be called increasing production capability and flexibility (such as split runs and inserting including free standing products) or it could be quality improvement.
But how do you improve quality in an organisation that already practices process standards and produces excellence quality? One answer seems to be that you develop a new and very human paradigm – you empower and motivate the people.
