The US Justice Department citing anti-trust and copyright concerns asked a federal court judge on 18 September 2009 to reject a controversial settlement that would have allowed Google to cut through complex copyright issues to create its “library of the future.” Google Books lets users search and read portions of millions of books that it has scanned before it asked the authors or publishers for permission. The approach seems to be according to some legal experts that after it has digitized content, then Google asks the owners if they object. According to these experts the whole idea of Google Books is to subvert the law of copyright.
