The focus of the Delhi Book Fair this year was on the North East maybe next year it should be on literature and work in the languages of South India. We met the only Telugu publisher at the book fair Veekshanam Publications a part of the Centre for Documentation, Research and Communication based in Hyderabad. Veekshanam a monthly journal of politics, economy and society has been in print for the last six years. Currently the journal claims a circulation of 10,000 copies. Books on similar subjects either written by the editors of the magazine or translations into Telugu of English titles on politics, economy and society are also available at the stand.

A recent title Telangana in English, is an attempt to understand the demand for a separate state. It looks at aspects like the division of states after independence on the basis of language and the emergence of Uttarkhand, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand in the nineties. The book then basically looks at the merits and feasibility of Telangana as a state.
The purpose of this Telugu publisher was to promote the magazine to Delhis sizeable Andhra population. The publishers and editors took pains to explain how they were offered a 50 per cent waiver on the exhibition costs by NBT because they wanted to promote regional language publishers. Veekshanam have chosen not to join the publishers association in Andhra Pradesh thus far, but are none the less committed to promote the book fairs in Delhi both the Delhi Book Fair and the World Book Fair in January 2010. They thought it was very good exposure for their own language and since its in India, quite economical. They were satisfied with the turnout of visitors and were also going to be at the World Book Fair in January 2010.
