The Spica is claimed to be suitable for on-demand print operations and is compatible with digital print workflows, added Komori. The company added that the entry level press benefits from the same small footprint of the earlier Spica models and similar levels of automation but it would allow printers to enter new markets with a competitive edge.
Since its launch in 2002, the Spica has earned a reputation as the most adaptable and capable press in its class and has now evolved with the Spica 529P to enable printers of all sizes to offer added value products by sealing or printing special colours in the fifth unit.
In the five years following the launch of the half-size press, Komori said that more than 350 Spicas have been installed by users around the world. For smaller print shops that have been handling mostly single-colour and 2-colour work, the Spica is suitable for changing to 4-colour, or 5colour printing.
According to the company, for medium-size printers, the Spica is a nimble and adaptable machine that is adept at meeting tight turn-around times when the work consists of many short to medium print runs of a variety of jobs. Automation as standard includes tool free plate clamping (SAPC), automatic ink roller and blanket wash and fully-automatic change-over between straight printing and perfecting.
