In a press release datelined Hiroshima on August 19, 2008, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Paper & Printing Machinery Division today announced the sale of another DiamondSpirit 4 x 1 double-width single-circumference press to Kasturi and Sons, publishers of The Hindu and The Hindu Businessline dailies and several other periodicals. This latest order is the fourth Mitsubishi DiamondSpirit press purchased by Kasturi & Sons and is based on the successful operation of the three previously installed presses, the first of which started operations in 2005 at a new plant in Hyderabad in and the other two in the group's new plant 45 kilometres south of Chennai in 2007.

All three press lines are equipped with heatset dryers and produce excellent print quality. All colour on these presses is produced heatset, including the main section and supplements of daily newspapers keeping in mind the company's policy of maintaining high reproduction quality in its products. The company has been the pioneer as far as heatset printing on standard newsprint using newspaper presses fitted with ovens and chillers.
The 80,0000 copies an hour shaftless press has double-size blanket cylinders. The fourth DiamondSpirit for Kasturi and Sons will be configured with two 4-over-4 tower units, two 1-over-1 tower units, four 50-inch 2-arm reelstands, two dryers, two chillers and one double jaw (2:3:3) folder. The press will be installed next to the existing two Mitsubishi DimaondSpirit presses in the Marai Malai Nagar plant and is expected to commence commercial operations in September 2008. Kasturi and Sons were the first customer of Mitsubishi’s DiamondSpirit 4 x1 press.
The group’s English language daily, The Hindu, has a circulation of than 1.3 million copies a day. In addition the company also owns, publishes and prints a daily business newspaper, Business Line, a weekly sports magazine, Sportstar, and a fortnightly current affairs magazine, Frontline. The company operates with a staff of over 3,400, owns 12 printing plants located throughout India, and contracts work out to two additional plants. |
