Vanessa Badroodien, director, cape town book fair
The numbers of Indian exhibitors at the Cape Town Book Fair at the city’s International Convention Centre exceed last year’s inaugural fair. Abhinav Publications, AITBS Publications, Aagean Offset Printers, B Jain Publishing, Cambride University Press India, Diamond Pocket Books, Har-Anand Publications and a few other companies are in the list.
We spoke to Charu Bhatnagar of Rave India who will be at the fair this year. Bhatnagar says, “As print service providers, we have been attending a number of book fairs. And from all reports received through Capexil, the 2007 Cape Town Book Fair gave good business opportunities to both publishers and print shops, thus the decision to attend this year’s book fair. Add to the fact, that Africa due to various constraints outsources a fair amount of its print requirements. So let’s hope that in your next issue we will say three cheers to CTBF.”
The Cape Town Book Fair is run under the auspices of the Publisher's Association of the South Africa and in association with the Frankfurt Book Fair. Under the directorship of Vanessa Badroodien the fair has become the biggest in Southern Africa, and last year drew a record-breaking 49,000 members of the public who came to celebrate the book and the joy of reading.
In its second edition, the Cape Town Book Fair has already become the most important book fair in Africa. The Zimbabwe Book Fair which long enjoyed that role, has lost its position with the continuing political turmoil in that country.
