GBO makes plans for Indian presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair (15-18 October 2008)
September 20, 2008 | By Purva Sethi
The German Book office, a joint venture of the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Foreign Ministry of the federal republic of Germany began its operations in New Delhi from February 2008. Besides promoting German Books and the activities of the FBF, GBO New Delhi serves as a contact point between German as well as International book industries and the book industry in South Asia. The main aim of the office is to facilitate more collaborations as well as business between South Asian, German and international book industries.

The launch of the GBO in Delhi was celebrated on 6 September 2008 at the Max Mueller Bhavan. There was first a discussion about India’s participation at the FBF with Jeurgen Boos, Managing Director FBF, Claudia Kaiser, Vice President, International Department of the FBF and Akshay Pathak, GBO New Delhi. Ms Kaiser spoke of a fellowship program they would organize for publishers and editors to get familiar with German publishing. Another important point that came up in the discussion was the need to focus on book retailing with training programs to educate the younger generation and attract them to this business.
Pathak spoke of the events that would be held at the FBF to highlight the trends in India. There will be a Matchmaking with Indian Printers for international publishers hosted by German Book Office New Delhi and sponsored by Welbound Worldwide and Indian Printer and Publisher on 16th October at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2008 between 11am and noon and a special meeting for participants at FBF will be held at the GBO, New Delhi at the end of September. Indian exhibitors will again be located at Hall 6 at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
